Jack Caldow is a self-taught artist born in 1998, Australia. He studied medical and environmental sciences at university and currently works as a tutor, teaching several subjects to school students. Art is his primary form of self-expression, where he communicates ideas from his scientific studies, experiences, and love for the natural world. The practice of continuously experimenting keeps his artistic spark alive as he strives to find new forms of communication. His goal is to re-frame classically religious art themes through a modern secular lens.
On ‘Symbiosis’: Whether it’s bees and the plants that rely on one another, fungus, and the soil they produce or our own bodies and the bacteria within them. Our world is a mosaic of symbiotic relationships. The more we see nature not as survival of the fittest individual, but as survival of the fittest cooperations, the more we can apply this to our own lives and societies. How can we live in harmony with one another like that of the bee and flower? How can we not just take, but also give back to a world that provides so much?
On ‘Synergy’ Through deep interconnection with other minds and bodies, we make the universe come alight with the fires of passion, love, curiosity and creativity. It is exactly this beautiful web of conscious nodes that brings meaning to an otherwise dead cosmos. A fleeting existence I am eternally grateful for.
