Swan Dive - Acrylic, ink and aerosol on paper. 36"x24" Expanding from my practice of daily brush meditations, this larger work on paper came out of a freestyle painting and later as I refined it started to take the form of a swan. This was the first of a series of loosely inspired animal forms using a more calligraphic line technique.

Native to Seattle, Leo Shallat’s Calligraphic style of Letterforms and movement create bridges across time, space, and culture. From murals to canvas to interior and graphic design, Leo continues to develop an intuitive symbolic language, combined with traditional calligraphic lettering practices inspired by dance, rhythm, typography, and storytelling.

Rebirth - Lithography Print on Archival Paper 19"x13" This piece was my first exploration into lithography printing. I worked with the image of a phoenix and was interested in exploring the ideas of rebirth and cycles through an abstracted mandala ring around the phoenix.

His work explores the intersection of proto- word forms and design through a variety of mediums.

Lions - Acrylic, ink and aerosol on paper. 36"x24" Continuing the series of freestyle calligraphic work on paper, this piece was the second of the series. Loosely entitled lions, the work was originally created with no specific composition in mind. The warmth of the gold tones and the twisting of forms resembled the mane of a lion.
