Matthew has been drawing ever since he can remember. Matthew lives in South West Victoria, Australia. His inspired by the things that are closet to him, i.e. portraits of mentors, family members and people he admires. Mathew also favours painting seascapes and landscapes. These seascapes and landscape are combined with windfarms which are part of a long running series of paintings. Matthew partners with his dad to make wallaby sculptures out of plywood.
Matthew Clarke graduated from Southwest TAFE in 2011 with a Diploma in Visual Arts, Craft and Design. In 2017 Matthew was proud to have his work featuring on a Melbourne Art Tram. In addition, his work featured on Adelaide Fringe tram in 2019 In 2021, Clarke was an Archibald Finalist with a painting of Del Kathryn Barton. More recently, he has become a two-time Wynne Prize finalist, finalist in both the Darling Portrait Prize and then Lester Prize, His work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, acquired as part of 2023 Melbourne Now Exhibition.
