Cinematography is photography in motion. Lighting is the most important part of the process, and often the most complex. Keeping lighting consistent from shot to shot without letting the cameras see the lighting fixtures can be challenging, and in some locations finding enough space to place a light outside of the frame is challenging. While light is every bit as important in nature photography, it's much simpler. In nature the photographer is not creating the shot as much as finding it. Find a beautiful subject, find a beautiful frame that captures the spirit of the place, then wait for the right light to convert the shot from a mere photograph into a work of art. Photographing a model on location is like doing landscape photography but bringing a beautiful subject along who can position herself in the right spot to make the composition.
Unlike the hustle and bustle of a busy film set, photography in nature is a relaxed and peaceful endeavor, even when the location is a long hike from the trailhead. It's the culmination of studying the art and technique of photography and art, and a powerful expression of the love for nature and the world around us.
