I work to find balance between order and chaos. And to let my imagination roam free, seeking, tuning in, and reacting to stories. These tend to be populated by lost highways, midnight drives, mountain passes, unknown wild lands, brooding woods. And the implication of an individual in the courageous process of answering “Yes.” when the call to adventure comes.
When I work, I am simultaneously off and spinning through this heady space while also savoring the sheer physicality of making a thing. The series that these three works come from, called [OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING] marks a long-desired move into low-relief, and is a better expression of that physicality that I've yet to manage. Playing with depth, layers, and textures in this way draws out these amazing cinematic moments and draws on the beautiful effects of early animation techniques in which depth was created by actual layers of drawings arranged in layers.
And that title . . . I get such a kick out of subtitles, especially when they are describing sound.
