Visual designer and illustrator Yushin Kato

Don’t Look at Me Most of my personal work stems from challenges I’ve struggled with growing up. This piece touches on self-image and self-worth, something I think a lot of people have had to grapple with at some point in their lives.

My name is Yushin Kato. I am a visual designer and illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. Professionally I create commercial work, mostly digital design with occasional illustrations if given the opportunity. My personal work serves as a means of emotional expression. It is my way to gain a deeper understanding of my identity and how I relate to the world around me.

My Body is Full of Poison This piece was actually an adaptation of an older illustration I did a few years ago. At the time, I was going through some pretty bad depression and I could feel all the negative energy inside of me affecting my physical health in addition to my emotional health. It just felt like everything inside of me was toxic.

Grace This was actually done as part of the 36 Days of Type (which I shamefully never finished). In this series I wanted to focus on figure studies while also developing a minimal style using delicate line work and playing with positive and negative space.
