PANDEMIA by Jordan Plotnek Acrylic on gallery canvas 48" x 36" 2020 When the first wave of COVID-19 brought about rapid lockdowns and border-closures I was left stranded in Mexico at a little beach-side village called Sayulita. This piece was inspired by the colourful cobble-stone streets of my new temporary home, using whichever colours were available at the nearest art store. The different interlocking shapes and colours are symbolic representations of the various peoples and countries that were affected by the sudden wave of panic created by the health crisis. The work speaks to the fact that global issues are not confined by politics or borders, and how we all need to work together to come out on top.
